Entrepreneurial. Innovative. ILR. ILR is a place where big ideas flourish, entrepreneurs develop and innovators thrive. Ken Kahn '69, featured in this issue of Advance, says he has drawn on his ILR education throughout his career. He credits his entrepreneurial success to taking risks and working in all areas of LRP Publications, the business he founded. Cornell's eLab (story on Pages 6-7) offers undergraduate coaching and alumni mentoring to help bring new products to life. ILR faculty member Dan Cohen oversees eLab. Since 2008, it has helped students conceive, nurture and launch business ventures. For someone considering the entrepreneurial path, ILR provides the perfect training ground. Students receive broad exposure to organizations and how they work, and gain workplace perspectives from all angles, both inside and outside the classroom. Entrepreneurship and innovation often go hand in hand. At ILR, innovation is more than just a buzzword — it's been a part of our fabric from the beginning. At the time of its founding, the school was described as a radical idea, promising new knowledge and practical solutions for resolving labormanagement conflict. Today, new ideas are everywhere at ILR. For example: l Our faculty are among the first at Cornell to teach a Massive Open Online Course, or "MOOC." l The new Title VII Class Action Consent Decree Repository, a one-of-a-kind free resource, makes information on discrimination lawsuits available to attorneys, social scientists and others. l Our human resources faculty are studying how work environments can be created to drive fresh thinking that contributes to economic growth. ILR's spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation goes beyond our faculty, alumni and students, and includes the work of our professional staff. We explore and identify better ways to deliver programs and improve efficiencies, find unique internship opportunities for our students, and adopt creative methods to engage and communicate. While ILR continually evolves to stay relevant, we're still committed to thinking differently and to driving change that benefits the working world and society. Entrepreneurial. Innovative. Good words to describe ILR, then and now.
