"I was part of the frst class of ILR students to attend the Renmin University of China sum- mer exchange program. Being of Chinese ethnic- ity, I've always been interested in what's happening in my home country. It reminded me how privileged I am to be in America and at Cornell, and gave me added incentive to go back and study and help others. For my honors thesis, 'The Return of Assimi- lation? A Comparative Review of Assimilation and Multiculturalism Policies in the United States, Canada, France and the United King- dom,' I'm comparing and contrasting how each nation approaches its immigration issues and tries to integrate immigrants." – Danny Qiao '15 "ILR professors teach you to question every- thing you're learning. There's so much en- couragement to go out there and use what you know to create change, learn new things and question the status quo. In the summer of 2013, I did a Global Service Learning project in Jeru- salem to help increase employment opportu- nities for people with disabilities. This past spring, I did in-depth research on the Peruvian textile industry with Professor Lance Compa and went behind the scenes of clothing production in Lima. Not only did I learn about different politics, economics and labor organizing tactics — I did it all in Span- ish." – Lawrence Goun '15 "I've been involved with the ILR Global Affairs Club since my freshman year and am president this year. Everyone in it is so passionate about what's going on around the globe. It's great to be surrounded by peo- ple with similar interests and work together to see what you can do to effect change." – Lisa Weingarten '16 "Through the Credit Internship Program, I spent a semester in Google's People Opera- tions department. I was responsible for identi- fying common recruiter issues and best practic- es, consolidating them into workshops, and managing a Google+ community of more than 700 members ded- icated to sharing those best practices." – Abby Maldonado '14 "I got involved with the Cornell Prison Education Program because I am doing higher education research and thought it would be interest- ing to see how higher education affects other populations." – Matthew Weiner '14 "Through the Disney College Program, I worked alongside 70,000 cast members (employees) at The Walt Disney World Resort and experienced frst- hand what I study in ILR … I've always wanted to work at Disney, and my professors have been very supportive of that. I've been able to tailor assignments and projects to the Disney company." – Peter Scelfo '15 9 "During spring break of my freshman year, I traveled to a rural community in Panama with the Cornell Global Law Brigade. We helped lawyers provide pro bono services and held clinics, where we listened to community members tell their stories … It taught me that the world is big- ger than my own back- yard and there is more that unites our humanity than divides it." – Gabrielle Hickmon '16 "In my Global Compara- tive Disability Policy class, we're scheduled to have a Skype session with a representative in Beijing. The idea of having a video lecture with some- body in China — while we're here in Ithaca —is absolutely amazing." – Samantha Fischetti '16
